FAQ
- What inputs do the duplicators have on them?
The duplicators simply copy discs and therefore do not have any inputs on them. You need to have a "master" disc in order
to create the copies. You could compare the duplicator to a photocopier that can copy a single page onto 9 blank pages
simultaneously, the duplicator will copy the master DVD or CD disc onto 11 blank discs simultaneously.
-
Do the DVD Duplicators copy menus, buttons and chapter points?
The DVD duplicators create exact digital copies of the master DVD and therefore the copies will be identical in content to the
master and will have the same menus, buttons, chapter points, video, audio etc.
- Can I use the DVD Duplicator to make "pirate" copies of Hollywood blockbusters?
Hollywood movies and most commercially available DVDs have CSS (Content Scrambling System) copy protection built into them.
The duplicator will not copy any DVD that has CSS. It would be unlawful to copy such discs. The duplicators will also not
put CSS onto discs. It will copy discs created on a standalone DVD recorder or PC/Mac
- How does the quality of the duplicate CDs or DVDs compare to the original discs?
The quality is identical to the master disc. Digital copy techniques are employed by the duplicators and there is no loss
of quality at all. The copied discs are exact replicas of the original master DVD or CD.
- Do the duplicators need special blank DVD or CD discs to duplicate onto?
Standard Recordable DVD discs work fine in the duplicators. We recommend the use of high quality branded media as
opposed to low grade unbranded discs. The duplicators will also copy onto rewritable discs but as these are more
expensive and slower to copy onto than single write discs, it is recommended to use single write (DVDR) discs.
Whether you use Plus or Minus DVDR discs depends on your specific requirements. Discs are also graded by speed and the DVD
Duplicator will copy a full 4.7gb DVD onto 16 speed media in approx. 7 minutes. Using 2 speed media it will take 30 minutes and
using 1 speed media will take 60 minutes.
- Can you get blank discs that are larger than 4.7gb?
Dual-layered DVDR discs are available. They hold 8.4GB per disc and our Opticopy duplicators support this new type of media. However compatability with DVD players is fairly poor at present and the price of blank dual-layered media is very high. The compatability issues should be ironed out by the media manufacturers over the next few months and prices will fall as the format becomes more widespread. Until then we recommend sticking to single layer DVD-R discs, while you can remain safe in the knowledge that your duplicator will support dual-layered writing when you decide to make the change.
- Do the duplicators need to copy onto all of the DVD or CD writers at once?
You can copy onto any number of writers just by inserting the master followed by the required number of blanks and then
pressing the "GO" button. You can copy onto 1 disc or any number up to the maximum number of writers in your unit.
- How do I know when the duplicator has finished a batch of discs?
The LCD screen on the duplicators indicates how much data has been copied. Once copied, all correctly written
discs are ejected.
- What about DVD regional coding?
Hollywood Movie DVDs include regional encoding which makes it difficult to play USA purchased discs in the UK. The DVD
duplicator does not put any regional coding onto the DVDs it creates enabling them to be played on any compliant DVD player.
- Can the duplicators copy DVD-ROM discs?
Yes, the duplicators will copy DVD-ROM discs. They will also copy DVD +R/RW discs.
- Where can I purchase blank media for my duplicator?
We also supply blank media. Follow the links for Blank Media on the left navbar.
